Jason Wu might be a young
designer but you couldn’t possibly tell that from his designs. This season was
just another great one for Wu inspired by Helmut Newton and Lillian Bassman, the
Taiwanese designer showed 43 proposals for Spring 2013, this September 7th
at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Known
for his romantic designs, this collection he decided to take a different
approach, mixing soft (lace) and tough (leather) materials, while still being
able to capture his romantic mark that we all have fallen in love with.
Cropped tops, see-through
blazers (with no pants!), leather dresses with laser cut designs, short, and I
do mean really short, dresses, skirts and shorts, and of course the ultimate
slim silhouette perfect for the business oriented yet fashionable ladies out
there.
But what was so wonderful
about this collection was his ability of combining masculine elements into the
feminine silhouette. Who would have thought of putting leather suspenders with
a see-through full skirt and an embellished tight body top? Uhm Mr.Wu did! And,
it totally worked! He had a series of variation of this look, my favorite being
the one showed on the right.
Jason Wu seems to be
enjoying his time on the top of the runway, having once again not disappointed
the audience. I’m sure everyone is already waiting impatiently for his next
collection, but oh well it’s going to be a while now, so better sit tight and
enjoy this one for now!
Love,
G.
